Asking for reflection on Universal Credit

In the Commons last week, I again asked for Ministers, who thus far have been extremely helpful and willing to consider new ideas, to reflect on the Select Committee Report, which includes recommendations for improving the service.

Standing up for our Union

Today, I had the pleasure of standing in Westminster Hall for a debate on two separate E-petitions; one for, and one against a second Independence Referendum.

Here’s what I said:

Asking the Government for investment in Aquaculture

I have asked the government – the Treasury in particular – to make a down payment on the Stirling city region deal. I asked for £20 million to realise the potential of aquaculture for the UK economy.

We need to protect our small businesses.

Today, I supported calls for a Backbench Business debate into:

“The treatment of SMEs by financial institutions and how does the current system fail to protect businesses?”

This debate will investigate the conduct of the banks when dealing with small and medium-sized businesses.

Latest funding announced for Stirling organisations

I have received news that the National Lottery has awarded a total of £22,601 to three local organisations, which applied to the National Lottery Awards for All Scotland for funding. This funding goes directly into the organisations, which will improve the standard of service for locals.

Universal Credit

Yesterday, I spoke again on Universal Credit in the Commons.

My speech on Autonomous and Electric Vehicles

I believe that electric vehicles represent a real advance in how we travel. The advent of fully automated vehicles is quite simply revolutionary. Our country must be at the forefront of these developments – part of the fourth industrial revolution which we regularly refer to in this House.
