Kerr welcomes tax protection for Scottish-stationed troops

Stirling MP Stephen Kerr has welcomed today's news that the UK Government will provide compensation to British Armed Forces troops stationed in Scotland, ensuring they don't lose out compared to troops stationed in England.

As a result of the SNP's tax regime, thousands of troops would be taking less of their own money home, making a posting to Scotland a significant financial burden on many.

The compensation will bring parity to the pay of troops stationed in Scotland.

Stephen Kerr MP said:

"I'm very glad that the MoD has listened to concerns from my colleagues and I, and has moved to ensure the Armed Forces won't lose pay.

The SNP's tax regime is seeing the tax gap between Scotland and the rest of the UK widen, and while we can take steps in the public sector many people will be put off coming to Scotland in the private sector by the thought of paying thousands of pounds more every year in tax."
