Rebuttal to the idea of a "Scottish backstop"

Firstly at the SNP Party Conference, then today in London, Nicola Sturgeon has called for Scotland to be a part of the Northern Ireland "Backstop", meaning Scotland remains in the customs union while the rest of the UK does not.

Lobbying the Fisheries Minister for Aquaculture funding

In my time as MP, I have been pressing the Government hard for investment into the Institute of Aquaculture and Global Aquatic Food Security and the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre. Both of these are located at the University of Stirling.

Asking the Government for investment in Aquaculture

I have asked the government – the Treasury in particular – to make a down payment on the Stirling city region deal. I asked for £20 million to realise the potential of aquaculture for the UK economy. 

We need to protect our small businesses.

Today, I supported calls for a Backbench Business debate into:

“The treatment of SMEs by financial institutions and how does the current system fail to protect businesses?”

This debate will investigate the conduct of the banks when dealing with small and medium-sized businesses.
